A training of trainers workshop was held inSan Lorenzo,Ecuadorfrom 22 – 26 January 2007. The workshop aimed at training participants on how to use the toolkit on ethics education that the Council on Ethics Education for Children is developing.

The participants of the three-day workshop were Colombian and Ecuadorian parents, young people and children living in San Lorenzo and affected indirectly or directly by the displacement situation.
Parents, children and trainees learned about the importance of understanding and respecting people from different cultures and analyzed the displacement situation from different points of view. They also had the opportunity to discuss ways of solving conflicts that arise from their differences and committed themselves to specific actions they can do to bring peace and mutual understanding to their region.
Ms. Amada Benavides de Perez from Colombia, Ms. Monica de Newton from Ecuador, Rev. Rolando Calle from Ecuador and Maria Lucia Uribe from the Arigatou Foundation in Geneva were the facilitators of the training workshop. Their experience working on ethics education, with children and adults and on methodologies that enhance critical thinking contributed to the success of the workshop.
The training workshop ended with action plans made by the trainees to prepare workshops on ethics education in Ecuador and Colombia based on the toolkit methodologies. Ms. Mercedes Román, GNRC Coordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean thanked the facilitators and participants for their commitment and expressed her satisfaction with the results obtained with the training workshop.
