The Global Network of Religions for Children (GNRC) participated in the 8thWorld Assembly of the World Council of Religions for Peace in Kyoto, Japan, from 26 – 29 August 2006. During the assembly which brought together more than 800 religious leaders from 100 countries, a Declaration on Confronting Violence and Advancing Shared Security was adopted

Over 800 delegates and observers from over 100 countries, drawn from the world’s religions gathered inKyoto,Japanfor the 8thAssembly of World Conference of Religions for Peace that took place from 26 – 29 August 2006. The Assembly endorsed the Declaration on Violence Against Children.

In its 2nd Peace Camp, 40 GNRC Africa Peace Club leaders participated in a three day Peace Camp inZanzibarin July 2006 during the Zanzibar International Film Festival, under a three-pronged theme of Media, Ethics and Globalization. The ‘Peace Ambassadors’ discussed at length ethical challenges arising from the print media including newspapers, magazines and tabloids; and

GNRC Youth from 12 countries representing the GNRC world regions and countries from Africa, Europe, Arab States, Central Asia, South Asia, Latin America and Israel attended a three day workshop on Ethics Education in Geneva, Switzerland from 13 – 15 July 2006.

Over 10,000 people flockDar es Salaam’s Mnazi Moja grounds to participate in a day-long festival in which GNRC ‘Peace Ambassadors’ were at hand to explain about conflict, peace-building and ethics from inter-faith perspective.

Over 400 participants from national, regional and international organizations and 22 children from six African countries gathered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 11 – 12 May 2006 to discuss how violence has affected children, particularly the girl child, and seek ways in which the violence could be ended. 

Representatives of various religions and experts on issues related to violence and child protection gathered in Toledo, Spain, 9 – 11 May 2006, to discuss the impact of violence on children and how faith communities can come together to take leadership in their societies to protect children.

An Inauguration of the new Building at the Pluralistic Spiritual Centre in Memory of Bruno Hussar at Neve Shalom – Wahat al-Salam was held on30 April 2006 followed by a Conference on Peace Building.

The children who died and still are suffering from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster was in focus at an interfaith ceremony arranged by the World Council of Churches and Green Cross International at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva on 26 April.
