Intercultural and Interfaith Learning

Ethics education that promotes intercultural and interfaith learning affirms the importance of nurturing ethical values and children’s spiritual development. This unique form of education seeks to assist children to strengthen their identity and critical thinking. It also fosters their abilities to make well-grounded decisions, to respect, appreciate and collaborate with people of other cultures, religions and beliefs, and to embrace their individual and collective responsibilities in a global community.

Take a look at the different programs and resources we have developed to support local, national, and global efforts to advance intercultural and interfaith learning.

Resource for Educators

Learning to Live Together: An Intercultural and Interfaith Programme for Ethics Education

Learning to Live Together is an educational program that helps teachers nurturing values and spirituality in children. It provides tools to help children and young people to develop a stronger sense of ethics, critical thinking, respect for people of other cultures, and nurture the sense of belonging to a global community.

The program is designed to contribute to the realization of children’s right to a full and healthy physical, mental, spiritual, moral and social development. It proposes an educational framework that can be easily adapted to different social and cultural contexts.

Its manual provides educators in formal and non-formal education settings with tools for designing, implementing, and evaluating intercultural and interfaith educational experiences. There are two manuals, tailored for working with children from 6 to 11 years old, and children 12 to 18 years old.

Since its launch in 2008, Learning to Live Together has reached 441,600 children in 45 countries. In addition, more than 4,900 facilitators have been trained in the use of the program, and 51 of them have become international trainers.

Program for Ministries of Education

Ethics Education Fellowship Program

The Ethics Education Fellowship is a program designed to strengthen ethics education in formal education settings to contribute to Global Citizenship and Peaceful and Inclusive Societies. The Fellowship supports sharing and building capacity within formal education institutions to further develop national programs that foster learning to live together.

The Fellowship Program is a collaboration between Arigatou International, Guerrand-Hermès Foundation for Peace – Global Humanity for Peace Institute, the Higher Committee for Human Fraternity, International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID), UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa and UNESCO New Delhi Cluster Office, as well as the implementing countries, represented by the Ministries of Education and National Commissions for UNESCO in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya, Mauritius, Seychelles and Sri Lanka.

Learning to Live Together in the Digital Environment

“Learning to Live Together in the Digital World: an intercultural and interreligious program for the education of adolescents between 12 and 18 years,” is a Guide and a Toolkit for educators to promote coexistence among children in the digital world.

Based on Arigatou International’s Ethics Education Framework, the Guide contains concrete guidelines and practical proposals for the design and implementation of systematic ethics education programs for children and adolescents from faith communities and faith-inspired organizations, understanding the new conditions, languages, challenges and opportunities of the digital world.

The Guideline will be launched in 2022.
