1st INSPIRE Implementation Jamboree – Leading Violence-Prevention Stakeholders Meet in Uganda

Under the theme “Advancing evidence-based action to end violence against children through INSPIRE dissemination, implementation and monitoring,” more than 150 professionals and representatives of organizations working to prevent violence against children met in for the 1st INSPIRE Implementation Jamboree in Kampala, Uganda.

The meeting, which was held on 24-25 June 2019, took stock of how violence prevention stakeholders at global, regional and national levels are making use of the INSPIRE technical package to inform their plans for collective action and of advances in efforts to implement and evaluate specific interventions from each of the strategies, with a special focus upon adaptation, scaling up and capacity development.

Arigatou International – Geneva attended the event as the convener of the International Consortium on Nurturing Values and Spirituality in Early Childhood for the Prevention of Violence, which is currently implementing the INSPIRE toolkit. Ms. Eleonora Mura, Programme Officer, shared about INSPIREd Faith Communities, a set of five roundtable discussions that were organized by the Consortium in Brazil, India, Kenya, Lebanon, and Sri Lanka, to discuss the importance of early childhood, the impact of violence on children’s development, how to nurture values and spirituality, and to reflect on ways to challenge social and cultural norms that condone violence in early childhood.

The discussions gathered more than 450 religious leaders, representatives from governments as well as faith-based and civil society organizations, experts on children’s issues, academia, pediatricians, and educators.

The INSPIRE Implementation Jamboree was hosted on behalf of the INSPIRE Working Group by the Uganda Government Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, the Uganda Government Ministry of Health, and the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office for Uganda.
