In this report, the International Clearinghouse on Children, Youth and Media directs its attention to gendered media messages. The contribution of media to the maintenance of the gender order is particularly important to study, considering the situation of children and young people, who have constant access to today’s extensive media output through a multitude of different channels.

Young People Soap Operas and reality TV -10 January 2011

The transformation of the traditional soap opera into certain more extreme soaps, and the emergence of the recent 'global' reality TV formats have whipped up storms of controversy in a great number of countries. Such programmes have also generated worries among adults about how they are received by, and may influence, young viewers - because children from all over the world watch adult programming from an early age.
